Japanese video game character or .... Madonna?

Madonna's new advert for Louis Vuitton (by Marc Jacobs) is about to hit the printed page. Some shots of the campaign are above.

Now forgive me for casting a critical eye over the whole affair but seriously? Are we supposed to be seduced by these pictures of a woman who resembles nothing so much as a Japanese virtual sweetie or a video game character?

That's just plain weird. Air brushed to within a whisker of existence. To me that's not selling a bag. That's an invitation to have people go "OH MY GOD!"

This isn't really a comment but I had no way to message you. Wasn't sure if that email address was the correct one. In anycase, thought this would interest you as a blog topic; some more Louis Vuitton for you. http://racked.com/archives/2009/06/29/celeb_collabs_kanye_moves_quickly_from_nike_to_louis_vuitton.php

And so, here we have an Icon trying to keep her youth. Age will come to all of us, very sad to say. Not easy to accept, but better than dead. This photo of Madonna only reaffirms the fact that she is struggling with her age. I honestly do not think I have seen another ad to compare when it comes to airbrushing imperfections. Vuitton missed the mark on this one, it's beautiful, but, what are they selling ? Or should I dare be nasty and say, which bag ? I do love Madonna, her music , her talent, she is a true artist. Therefore, she surely cannot be pleased with this lay out. But, I will also add, at least for once she is not showing a nipple.

Which bag? VERY FUNNY. I always think that anyone who has surgery looks their age, but with surgery.
ie: you look like a 50 year old woman that has had a facelift. So I am never quite sure what the point is. Though I am fairly sure Meryl Streep HAS had work but it's so subtle it looks lovely.

What's disappointing is she looks so bland and expressionless, aside from absurdly young.

I agree Kathleen - surely she can't feel happy about it?
